                                     Dtrùt jeen
                                ( Chinese New Year)

Dtrùt jeen is New Year of Chinese people, called Chinese New Year, which is old traditional and gains significance because of several myths and customs. Traditionally, the festival is a time which is the Chinese people honor to their ancestors.

Chinese New Year is celebrated for sixteen days, from New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival. The precede days start from 23rd - 29th of the 12th month. The prepare things that Chinese have to do, such as cleaning their house and New Year shopping. Cleaning house - the 23rd of the 12th lunar month, Chinese people carry out a thorough cleaning of their houses. The cleaning is called "sweeping the dust", and represents a wish to put away old things, bid farewell to the old year, and welcome the New Year. New Year shopping – People will buy lots f new things, such as New Year food and snacks, New Year decorations, and clothes before New Year’s Eve. 30th of the 12th lunar month is New Year’s Eve. The activities in this day are putting up New Year Decorations. Houses are decorated with decorations, such as red lanterns, red couplets, New Year paintings, god image and red lanterns. Second is Enjoying Reunion Dinner, the New Year's Eve Feast is a must do dinner with all family members reuniting. Chinese try very hard to make this family event, often traveling long distances. This is the main reason for the huge travel stress throughout China. Third is Giving Red Envelopes that have money to Kids, Parents usually give their children red envelopes after the reunion dinner, wishing them health, growth, and good studies in the coming year. The last activity in Chinese New Year’s Eve is staying up late, this custom is called Shousui. Chinese stayed up all night in the past, but now most stay up only till the midnight firecrackers and fireworks die down. In first Chinese New Year's Day start with setting off firecrackers and fireworks, the moment New Year arrives there is a cacaphony of fireworks and firecrackers all around. Families stay up for this joyful moment. Next, offer sacrifices to their ancestors, shows respect, piety, and missing departed relatives on such a special festival. It is also believed that ancestral spirits will protect their descendants and make them become prosperous. People will visit their relatives and friends on 2nd – 7th day. People normally return to work by the eighth day. As eight is the luckiest number in China, most businesses prefer to reopen on New Year day 8. The fifteenth day is Chinese New Year period ends and it is the Lantern Festival day, traditional end of the Spring Festival celebrations. People send aloft glowing lanterns into the sky while others let floating lanterns go on the sea, on rivers, or set them adrift in lakes.

All I have written are the importance and all 15 days activities in Chinese New Year that everyone should learn about it because lots of Chinese people moved to live in Thailand, so we should learn their culture and tradition for taking a conversation with them easily.
